									<h3>Abstract</h3>
<p>Engineering education in India has been a much sought after profession. In this paper I will try to take you through the different phases of development of engineering education in India starting with the first engineering college till the inception of the first IIT (Indian Institute of Technology). I will make a critical assessment of the transition in the state of engineering education in India from the nineteenth to the twentieth century.</p>
