Philosophy of science in practice studies the sciences in their development, both historically and by studying contemporary science in the making. In this pre-conference workshop, we shall discuss how the results of such studies can provide important insights of relevance to scientists, to science managers, and to science educators, and we shall especially focus on how insights from philosophy of science in practice can be used in higher education to improve the training of young, aspiring scientists – that is, on how philosophy of science in practice can contribute to making better scientists.
The workshop takes place in Auditorium F at the Department of Mathematics, Ny Munkegade 118, 8000 Aarhus C. Registration for the workshop takes place between 8.30‐9.00 am in “Vandrehallen” in building 1530, placed to the left after entering the math department through the main entrance (see map of conference location for SPSP).
To enable a rich exchange of experiences with philosophy of science courses for scientists, the workshop will include a poster session with posters describing individual courses or other forms of teaching. In addition, there will also be an exhibit area in which participants can present teaching material.
To contribute to the poster session or the exhibit, please tick the ‘Pre-conference workshop’ and then the ‘Poster for the poster session’ options as part of the registration for the SPSP conference. To participate in the poster session, registration must be completed before April 14, 2015 (also deadline for the early bird discount on the registration fee).
Please note that the number of participants is limited to 55 and registration works on a first come, first serve basis. If during registration you receive the message that the workshop is fully booked, you can be added to the waiting list by sending an e-mail to spsp2015@au.dk with the subject line “waiting list for the pre-conference workshop) and your name, institutional affiliation and e-mail address in the body of the e-mail.
