New book review of Casper Andersen and Henry Nielsen's "Minutter til midnat" by Casper Sylvest, University of Southern Denmark

Metascience, vol. 32, iss. 2 (July 2023): 253-255

Abstract

This volume provides a global history of nuclear weapons in the Danish language, closing a gap in the literature. To the extent that nuclear weapons have figured in Danish historical scholarship, the focus has primarily been on the repercussions of this technology in Danish politics and culture during the Cold War. Minutter i Midnat is a timely and highly relevant publication, especially in a country where a return to well-informed discussion of nuclear weapons—the threat they pose, their history, the crisis in international diplomacy regarding nuclear weapons and Denmark’s own policy towards this global risk—is long overdue. The book is the product of a collaboration of two historians approaching the subject mainly from the history of ideas (Andersen) and the history of science (Nielsen). The two share an interest in the history of technology and its manifold consequences in the modern world.
