Kristian H. Nielsen publishes "Science Communication from the Perspective of STS"

In: Türkiye’de STS: Bilim ve Teknoloji Çal??malar?na Giri? [STS in Turkey: Introduction to Science and Technology Studies], edited by A. Turanl?, A. U. Ayd?no?lu, & M. ?ahinol (Istanbul Technical University), 37-47

Abstract

This paper identifies six contributions dealing with science communication in four editions of The Handbook of Science and Technology Studies (STS) from 1995 to 2017. (The first and second edition are similar in their treatment of science communication.) The contributions addresses science communication or related topics in different ways. The first three editions of the Handbook, published in 1995, 2002, and 2008, include chapters on science in the media, rhetoric of science, and public understanding of science/ participation in science. None of them deals explicitly with science communication. The fourth Handbook has a separate chapter on science communication, suggesting that (finally) science communication has emerged as an STS perspective in its own right.
